The present-day version of that image was the real-time backdrop to the project, as the airbase was literally the space where I worked. In the summer of 2009 I gathered materials, via donation and foraging. I chose the pattern for the quilt squares and began sewing. I sewed quilt squares, sporadically, through 2010, and contemplated the final form the project might take and possibilities for display. In 2011 I finished all the quilt pieces, ordered them, designed and constructed the armature for the quilt, and built a box on which to display the quilt.
