The image with the balloon arch is from a quinceñera party. One of the people I initially talked with about the quilted poem project was Rubén from Rubén’s Bakery, the panadería in Wendover. The sign on his shop says bakery, not panadería, though the shop is a traditional Mexican panadería transplanted to the U.S. He told me he was one of the first three Mexicans to arrive in Wendover, decades ago. He arrived by accident, having boarded the wrong bus. Now Wendover has the highest percentage of Mexicans of any city in Utah: 66%.
