The quilt pattern is called “The Road to California.” It was originally developed in the 1840s, around the time of the Western Expansion of white people into the indigenous and Mexican territories of the states now known as Colorado, Utah, Nevada, New Mexico, Arizona and California. There are numerous iterations of this pattern.
